COWEN -- A man stabbed in Webster County has been released from the hospital.

Lorenza Carte, 31, of Webster Springs is no longer listed as a patient at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital, according to hospital officials.

Carte was taken to the hospital after he and another man, Jason Lawson, 34, of Camden On Gauley were found in the parking lot of the Y-Mart in Cowen on Thursday, Dec. 17 at about 12:15 p.m., officials said.

Both men were taken by ambulance to Webster County Memorial Hospital, before being transferred by helicopter to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital, according to officials. Lawson later died from his injuries.

The fight and subsequent stabbing happened at a home on Williams River Road in Cowen, and it appears that the victims drove themselves to the Y-Mart afterward, according to Dwayne Vandevender, Webster County Prosecuting Attorney.

Troopers arrested Emmanuel DeAngelo Martin Jr., 18, of Harrison Township, Mich. and charged him with first-degree murder and malicious wounding in connection with the stabbing.

Martin will have a bond hearing later this week.
