WELLSBURG -- Brooke's Ian Morris has been named the Erb Electric / Bridgeport Equipment & Tool / Athlete of the Week.
The junior slot back scored three touchdowns in the first half of the No.1-ranked Bruins Class AAA state quarterfinal meeting with Ripley.
Morris returned the opening kickoff 82 yards for his first score.
"It bounced right to me, and I got a lot of nice blocking and took it all the way," said Morris.
But he wasn't finished in the opening quarter. He took a handoff 41 yards for another touchdown, and later scored on a 35-yard reception from quarterback Cotey Wallace.
"Ian came up big for us," said Head Coach Tom Bruney. "That kickoff return to start the game was huge."
The Bruins have gotten off to a couple of slow starts in the past few weeks, and had to come from behind to win. But not against Ripley.
"It was finaly nice to get a lead and not play from behind," said Morris, whose role has increased over the past few weeks with an injury to Ryan Lazear. Morris finished the game with over 200 all-purpose yards, as the Bruins won the game 34-14.
