CLARKSBURG -- Veterans Day parades were held in a number of North Central West Virginia communities Wednesday.
Clarksburg's parade started with the roar of motorcycles.
The bikers laid flowers on the veteran's memorial in front of the Harrison County Courthouse.
All four of the county's high school bands marched in the parade, as did several local veterans organizations.
Several hundred people bundled up and lined the streets of Clarksburg for the parade.
Fairmont's parade started at Palatine Park, crossed the High Level Bridge, and ended at Veterans Square.
The parade was followed by a ceremony at Veterans Square and a speech from a World War II pilot.
The Veterans of Foreign War held their own tribute in Morgantown's Courthouse square.
Representatives of both world wars, the Korean and Vietnam wars, Operation Iraqi Freedom and descendants of the American Revolution, placed wreaths in the memorial garden.
One of the veterans was 90 years old.
A 21-gun salute and the playing of "Taps" concluded the memorial service.
Buckhannon-Upshur High School marching band provided music for the parade in Buckhannon and people clapped and cheered as veterans walked and drove by.
The Upshur County Commission, Cub Scouts, and 4-H club also participated, along with the Buckhannon Police Department, the Upshur County Sheriff's Department, and local fire departments.
A Veterans Day ceremony was held at the Courthouse after the parade.
