MORGANTOWN -- The Morgantown Police are continuing their investigation of an early morning fight that left a West Virginia University student seriously injured.

Surveillance video from the Dairy Mart on Willey Street shows the fight that happened around 3:10 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot, police said Monday.

The video shows several men and women were in the area when the fight occurred. Police are asking those people to come forward and contact the detectives.

Other witnesses told police that five to seven men attacked three other men. When officers arrived at the scene Saturday morning, they found a man lying unconscious in the the parking lot, according to a police department press release.

Police have identified the victim as Ryan Diviney, 20. On Monday, police reported that he was in critical condition at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the fight or who knows anything about it, to call them at 304-284-7522 or 304-284-7454.

WVU Student Affairs officials have been in contact with Diviney's family.

They have also offered counseling to other victims in the incident.

To Sandy Corners: If he was drinking they would have said something in the police report about him drinking. I know the family and ryan personally. He did not deserve any of this and whoever did this should be convicted and held for a long time. you should be ashamed of yourself for even saying something like that. and to everyone else. if you're just going to falsey accuse him, don't write on here. leave it for your own facebook status'. all his family needs is support not crap written on here about how he probably started it. realize what you are saying. i'ts just not right. and for whoever would like to make a donation to ryan's family go to www.ryanrally.com

To Sandy Conners, Your comment literally nauseated me! It is unspeakable what you infer here. You too need prayer, as your soul sounds like a very dark place.

Good positive comments from a lot of you. And 'WVU Student'... just so you know, Ryan is paralyzed. He wont be able to have a 'next time' to avoid a conflict like that.

Its silly that you think like that... you don't even know if he had anything to do with anything, or if he just got jumped. But you think its his fault for just going out late in college, potentially possibly even drinking?

Pshh. You embarrass America.

I have to say, Wvu student, you suck. Plain and simple. Other people have elaborated on this and I back them 100%, so I need not say anymore.

Second, not that this has ANYTHING to with any of this, the people in Morgantown from Jersey are ignorant and full of themselves. They trash talk WV and Morgantown. New Jersians: if you dont like it, go somewhere else. You chose to come here. And if you have as much money as you act like you do, then you can afford to go somewhere else.

Lastly, my prayers are with the victims family. And I pray the judge have NO mercy on the guilty.

And if you are compelled to rebuttle any of this, dont. Or go ahead. Either way I dont care. I won't be back here to see what you have to say.

Sick of the Rhetoric, you are right! I should not have been hypocritical by calling them out and then stereotyping myself, however, at WVU a lot of people from Jersey constantly act inferior to everyone from W.V as if this is their state and no one from W.V. is even around, it gets so old. I realize my mistakes by saying that and even my grammatical errors but when I read WVU Student's comment I was infuriated. I now know I was wrong about the two men being from New Jersey too but that was what the WVU mix report said at first and that is where my information was from. Being a student on this campus, not a day goes by when a N.J. student doesn't make a nasty comment about redneck, deliberance type stuff, so just as the Jersey talk gets to you, the W.V. talk gets to me. I understand that not everyone considers W.V people rednecks but you should realize what people from W.V. have to deal with all around in terms of criticism. I apologize for my comments! Looking back on it all I think that everyone needs to stop arguing about each other's comments and realize that this young man is in need of prayer and help! Do what you can but realize the terms of this man's condition. I know many may not understand this but as a student who just spent 4 years and especially the last 5 months studying at Pruntytown Correctional, the CJS is seriously flawed and needs much attention. Society leads to the causation of many crimes and as senseless as this may be it needs to be realized that it is hurtful to everyone involved. What I'm trying to say is the young men who have turned themselves in need a prayer for rehabilitation as well. I will be praying for the families!

Kortney, are you serious? You are calling someone out for stereotyping and then go ahead and do the exact same thing? Referring to “all you assholes from New York and New Jersey” is not stereotyping? Oh, and by the way, the kids who were arrested were both from Delaware, not New Jersey. You may want to work on getting your facts straight, criminology major. And while I am at it, there are at least 7 grammatical errors in your comment. I know ya’ll like to think that people from NY and NJ are such redneck haters, but check a map Kortney. Half the Jersey shore is further south than Morgantown, WV.

I’m surprised I’m going to respond to this “WVU Student” comment, but I couldn’t resist. First off, being a WVU alum, and one who likes to partake in extracurricular activities, the comments posted are not warranted. Of course I understand everyone has the right to freedom of speech, so congrats you made your “point.” Secondly, I hope this so called “WVU Student” is like some of my friends that were not able to make it out of Motown with a degree, because he/she doesn’t know what it means to be a true Mountaineer! We are a family and you do not belong in that category.

With that being said, I do not know Ryan, but from one Mountaineer to another in need, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Gods Speed.

wvu student is mostly correct. I went dowtown three times a week and usually walked home in the early hours of the mourning. I never got into one fight. People may have tried to get into it, but if you walk away, no problem. If you stand there and argue with an ignorant drunk person, you will get into a fight. Thats how it is at 3am in Morgantown. Mind your business and you won't have any problems, I promise. It was 3 vs. 6, this kid should have walked away like his "friends."

WVU Student-- you are so ignorant to the situation, and the the delicacy of human life for that matter. Ryan IS the victim of a horrible tragedy--- no one should be beaten, no matter the circumstance. I'd just like you to know that I am an Honors student with a 3.75+ gpa and an up-standing volunteer in the Morgantown community, AND I have been out at 3a.m in Morgantown (so, PLEASE call me a "moron"). I've never felt unsafe in town, and it's very sad that something like this happened. Things like this make you think twice about your peers.

Nova and WVU Student- You want to chastise WVU student for his words then you turn around ans act the same by stereotyping the people who beat him "rednecks"! Surprise it was two idiots from New Jersey! You should both be ashamed of your words! A young man is in critical condition, whether he did or did not start the fight is of no matter! I am a senior Criminology student on this university, I have never went out to a bar, but I sure as hell am aware of crime and the causations and of biggoted people like you two! This young man needs prayers and all you can do is act like uncivilized assholes! Nova- since it was probably rednecks who did this I'd like to know where the hell your from? And if West Virginians are such rednecks why the hell do all you assholes from New Jersey and New York come down here? To get you "redneck Education?"

WVU Student, You are sadly wrong and pitiful in your comments. During my college days, we often were out at this time of night/morning. Morgantown doesn't sleep like many other surrounding areas.

To the Va Tech person, lay off the inbred comments. The local paper released today that warrents have been issued for two Newark Deleware 18 year olds in connection to the attack. There is plenty of banjo music in Blackburg brother. Don't throw stones in your glass house.

Kepe the prayers going for Ryan.

I am completely shocked by this. I worked for Ken, Ryans father for a few years at AT&T. He was the best manager I ever worked for and knowing him, I could not beleive his son would be any less. Just tragic, what can you say about this? I hope they catch these punks and fry 'em, takes alot of guts to beat and kick someone who is already on the deck. Cowards. I wish I found them.

WVU student- Your Ignorance is unfathomable, you have no respect and your heart has to be chiseled from Ice. I truly feel bad for people like you because no one deserves to be beaten to near death regardless of time, place, and/or who started the fight. Bigger men walk away weak cowards like you post comments like this. Next time you think anyone wants your sad, pathetic, ignorant comments do the world a favor and shut up. People like you are the reason why stuff like this happens in the first place. Your a spineless coward and with outlooks like this you will live a sad, lonely, pathetic life and deserve every second of it. Stay strong Divney family and dont listen to Inbred ignorant people such as this coward.

"WVU STUDENT"-- Why would you even post some dumb comment like that? You just want attention or your the suspect the cops are looking for! Kids in college stay out late/early religously. Fights happen but you live to fight another day. This was extreme!! The rednecks that beat this man to near death have karma following them now. God will eventually prevail

Dude, I'm not saying that the guy deserved to get beaten to the point that he did, but he still should have known better. And "half the university" isn't out at 3am. Just the drunken morons. It's pretty common knowledge that most people out at 3am on a Saturday night are just looking for trouble. It just so happens, it bit someone in the ass. Deal with it.

Seriously, what would you expect to happen when you go around downtown Morgantown at 3am on a Saturday night? Was he drunk? Most likely. Bad things happen to people who put themselves in obviously bad situations. Next time, maybe he'll think before he does something stupid. Stop treating him like some kind of victim in this.

What I really want to know is WHO started the fight?

My prayers for Ryan's continued recovery. As a proud former West Virginia resident, a former WVU student and someone currently living in Northern Va, I'm stunned that this type of thing occurred in Morgantown usually known for it's non-violent college type atmosphere. I hope the offenders guilty of this crime are found and punished appropriately for their actions. We have enough wars going on half way across the world we don't need any of those on our home terf!

For those who know any information, put in mind that Ryan could have been your brother, cousin, your future child and let the police know what happened.

We are all praying for a speedy and successful recovery for Ryan. As a parent of 20 year old boy from Ashburn, VA (also a friend of Ryan's), I cannot image what you are going through.

I would hope that someone will come forward soon with information. The guilty person must be found and held responsible for his actions.
