CLARKSBURG -- The Clarksburg City Council has approved spending more than $610,000 in stimulus money to improve the city's sidewalks and energy efficiency.
It will use a $530,000 grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to improve the historic downtown's sidewalks.
The public will notice the biggest changes down Trader's Alley, which runs parallel to Main and Pike Streets, according to City Manager Martin Howe.
It will spend an additional $80,000 in stimulus money on a guaranteed energy savings contract. The Constellation Energy/CLT Efficient Technologies group performed an energy audit for the city and suggested changes that will save it money in the long run.
"It's 100 percent guaranteed energy savings," explained Howe. "If you do not receive the energy savings to pay back a debt, this company has to make up that difference."
Howe said the city plans to replace street lights, traffic lights, and interior lights throughout the city.
