FAIRMONT -- The High Level Bridge in Fairmont has re-opened.
The Division of Highways closed the bridge for more than three weeks while crews worked on pedestrian crosswalks.
It's part of the Gateway Connector project.
The crosswalks are 20 feet wide, complete with brick sidewalks and granite edging.
Traffic on Merchant Street may have returned to normal, but the DOH says to expect more changes in the coming week, this time on State Street and Pleasant Valley Road.
"Probably within the next 2/3 weeks we will switch traffic over to the two new lanes that have just been paved (the new Pleasant Valley Road). That will allow contractors to work on the earthen embankment to cover what is now the existing State Street," said Danny Donlin with the DOH.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.
