MORGANTOWN -- A Maryland man who was reported missing and later found in Preston County could face charges, according to Morgantown Police.

The girlfriend of Matthew Sanders, 21, of California, Md., reported him missing Sunday night, according to police.

She told police he was last seen on Beechurst Avenue Sunday afternoon and never made it to his destination at the U.S. Naval Academy, in Annapolis, Md.

State Police found Sanders, uninjured, in Preston County, on Monday.

Sanders had apparently told troopers that he was part of a kidnapping for extortion plot, which later turned out to be untrue, police said.

Officers are now talking to the Monongalia County Prosecutor's Office to find out what charges could potentially be brought against Sanders.

Let the military deal with him. He knew what he was getting into when he enlisted. It doesn't matter what circumstances are behind it. If the military refuses to deal with it, then and only then should the locals pick it up.

Hey Dave, we can make assumptions if we like, my assumption is that he is a homesick coward trying to hide from the duties in which he committed to, our country. I'm with retired military, let the military handle this homesick coward, because the regular justice system will not, and he'll get exactly what he wants, some attention and to be home, all this while our justice system takes time to work....
