WESTON -- The former Weston State Hospital has been a haven for ghost hunters on the weekends since it reopened. Now, the Ghost Adventures cast and the entire production crew has descended on Weston, preparing for a seven-hour lock down at the The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.

Zac Bagans, Aaron Goodwin and Nick Groff are the Ghost Adventures Crew, and they will be the first television detectives to launch an extensive seven hour long investigation from the Asylum, live on Halloween Eve. "We are here to investigate this huge location that is one of the most haunted places in all America," said Nick Groff, who believes the Medical Ward is probably the best place to find ghosts on the hospital's grounds. "So we're excited to go in and get started investigating to see if it lives up to its claims."

What does it take to shoot a live event of this size?

"In terms of the type of gear we roll in here with, 140 people from start, top to bottom, technical side, the interactive side, the cameramen, the audio men, everything," said Senior Director of Content for the Travel Channel Charlie Parsons, who also works on No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain and Man vs. Food. "One hundred forty people, 37 cameras, and we started planning this back in March, so it's seven months in the making."

"This was our final big location," said Groff, "And we wanted to do it live, do it huge, and just investigate this location for the whole night and just see what kind of paranormal activity we can actually capture."

What you may not know about Ghost Adventures is that it is completely interactive. If you log onto their website at the link below, you can watch web cams that are posted around the asylum and help out if you see something suspicious.

"If they see shadows go by on a web cam they can text in to the guys and they can scroll [the message] across the bottom of the screen," said Parsons. "We can even tell the guys to go investigate something if you get a bunch of messages about one location."

The live show runs Friday, 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. on the Travel Channel.

You can also visit the Ghost Adventures Website by clicking on the link below. There you can read up on the Crew and see an extensive interactive account of the hospital's history.

I believe that Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum was the original name of the facility.

"The entire facility and 300 acres were privately purchased in September of 2007 and renamed Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (TALA) from The Weston State Hospital."

When WSH was built in 1864 is original name was the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum but over time people just referred to it as WSH or... when you visit the site it says it was changed to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum when it was purchased in Sept 2007 when it switched hands. Also when I went on the tour, I recall the tour guide saying that the name changed quite a few times, depending on who owned the property.

When did the Weston State Hospital become the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum? Why did the name change?
