FAIRMONT -- The Communication Workers of America Local 2004 is protesting a proposed sale by Verizon to Frontier Communications.

The CWA is asking county commissions across the state to join it by writing letters to the Public Service Commission.

Wednesday, Oct. 28 it approached the Marion County commission.

The CWA said economic growth in the state depends on communication, and that the proposed deal would put Frontier too deep in debt to provide adequate service to its customers.

"The jobs we have in our state, how many will be cut? Will service in West Virginia be better? We don't think it will be better, so that is our concern," said Local 2004 President David J. Fox.

Verizon says it will release more details on the sale later this week. The Public Service Commission is expected to make a decision in January.

Frontier has been around for 75 years, already provides good service in West Virginia, and pushes broadband to the most rural parts of the state. Folks worried about the debt Frontier wil assume in this deal also ought to know that Frontier will be getting significantly more revenue from this deal; it will be a stronger company financially from Day One, and it will increase Internet availability in the state. Plus, Frontier will honor existing union contracts and has committed not to lay off any installers or technicians for at least 18 months after the deal closes. Where else in today's economy is anyone getting those kinds of commitments?

I don't like Frontier... they is more cost for internet and will reqiure with phone service line.... I like Verizon, because they are more cheaper and dont require phone service line.... I hope not they will change from Verizon to Frontier in Fairmont, WV...
