FAIRMONT -- "He's the perfect kid you want to coach," said Fairmont Senior head coach J.L. Abbott.
Now that's a compliment every kid wants to hear from their head coach and in Logan Moores' case, he's definitely earned it. Logan has been Fairmont Senior's starting quarterback for three years, something that he's wanted to be his whole life.
"I've always wanted to be a quarterback; I've been working hard since I was five or six years old. It's a fun position to play, you always have the ball in your hands, you always have the opportunity to make a play on offense," said Moore.
Polar Bear head coach J.L. Abbott has watched Logan develop since he was in middle school and knew that he would be something special when it came his time to run the offense.
"I saw a kid that could throw, we saw a kid that could run, and he was smart. He's a cool cat, he calls his own pass blocking, he definitely knows where his receivers are suppose to be," added Abbott. And he sure has found them. He's led his team to a six and zero record and they keep creeping up on that number one ranking in the state. All while breaking the school record for the most passing yards. When I asked his about this honor, he was as cool as, well, a polar bear.
"It feels pretty good, but like I said before, I couldn't break those records without having great talent around me," added Moore.
This week on athlete of the week, Logan and I are going to play a little catch. My football background is not so hot, his however, he's almost to 5,000 yards passing in his extravagant career here. So, how do you think I'm going to do today?
"We'll see," Moore said.
Alright well let's check it out, here we go.
I'm going to do a six yard out, a ten yard post, and then the fade to the corner of the end zone and I'm going to catch all three!
Logan threw me three absolutely perfect passes, I however didn't fare as well as I might have hoped, dropping two that hit my hands.
"Nice hands, feet!" Moore exclaimed as I returned.
Well, Logan, you are this weeks athlete of the week, good luck on the rest of your season.
