WEBSTER SPRINGS -- Webster County authorities have charged a Webster Springs woman with murdering her husband.

Prosecutor Dwayne Vandevender says Julia Surbaugh shot and killed her husband Michael last Thursday.

It happened at about 7:30 a.m. at the couple's home.

Surbaugh was booked in the Central Regional Jail, Wednesday morning and is charged with first degree murder.

Authorities have not released a motive in the case.

Michael Surbaugh was a former science teacher at Webster County High School.

The state police arrested him last May, after they found 14 grams of marijuana, various prescription drugs, a loaded .22 caliber pistol, and several knives in his car.

This is not the way we "end things in Webster Co." I was born and raised in Webster Co. and the number of murders that have taken place there in my lifetime - 38 years - is probably in the single digits. I'll bet money you can't say that about your county. This was obviously a disturbed woman with major problems.
