It happened at a home in Moatsville late Thursday.

MOATSVILLE -- Authorities from several agencies responded to a standoff Thursday night in the Moatsville area of Barbour County.

Shortly after 11:00 p.m. a 17-year-old male became angry with his father and then beat him, according to police.

The juvenile then found a handgun in the residence and began firing it.

When police arrived, the suspect, accompanied with his girlfriend, fled the scene as he reloaded the weapon.

After an almost four hour standoff the suspect came out from behind his residence.

That's when police say he was taken into custody without incident.

The 17-year-old's name will not be released since he is a juvenile.

Police say he had been drinking and that he was not properly taking his medications.

The West Virginia State Police is investigating the incident.
