CLARKSBURG -- Red light runners, beware. The Clarksburg Police department has joined efforts with the Governor's Highway Safety program to further enforce traffic laws and educate drivers on the dangers of running red lights.
The department has received $10,000 towards "Target Red Light" enforecement efforts, Sgt. Jason Webber said.
Four high-risk intersections in the city have been monitored for offenders and have produced alarming results, he said.
Out of nearly 330 cars observed traveling through the intersections during a one hour survey, 92 drivers had committed some sort of traffic violation.
The four targeted red lights are: Pike Street and Holt Street near McDonalds, the light at the bottom of the hill near Monticello Avenue, Route 50 and old Route 50 and Chestnut Street and Pike Street near the post office.
The program will continue until July 12th and officers will be monitoring the intersections from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A post-program survey will be completed to see if the violators have changed their driving habits, Webber said.
