The 31st annual event is underway June 1-4

Story by Courtney Dunn

MORGANTOWN  -- A record number of people are in Morgantown this week taking part in West Virginia University's Summer Institute on Aging.

More than 230 social workers, nurses and counselors are taking part in the 31st annual institute.

It is sponsored by the Division of Social Work and the WVU Center on Aging.

A variety of seminars are held over the course of four days to provide participants with a variety of information and training, which organizers say is especially relevant in West Virginia.

"The demand is great we have a huge elderly population in West Virginia and so training social workers, nurses and counselors to work better with that population is really important," said WVU Continuing Education Coordinator Jacki Englehardt.

After the seminars, participants could pick up information and learn more about resources available from 18 exhibitors.
