MORGANTOWN -- Morgantown will host the West Virginia BASS Federation Invitational Championship in July and now there is another opportunity in our area to fish competitively.
Cabela's King Kat Tournament Trail is coming to the Monongahela River in Morgantown.
The catfish tournament is Saturday, June 13th.
That same day there will be a King Kat Kid's Fishing Rodeo at Dixon Lake in Cassville.
The Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau says they're excited to welcome the first catfish tournament to Morgantown.
"This will be the first that locals and everybody will be able to find out what's actually in the Mon River so we've seen some of the bass that come out and now we get to see what the catfish are in there," says Dave Plevich, Sports and Specials Events Director.
"There are big catfish that have been in this river for many years. These professional catfish guys are coming in town to catch these fish." Plevich says the fish they catch will be on display at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park on Saturday during weigh-in.
For more information about the tournament or to register call the Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau at 304-292-5081.
