MORGANTOWN -- "If you've never been to Children's Hospital you should go to see it," says NICO Spalon Owner Nicholas Romanoli. "The people there really need our help and it's a wonderful, wonderful place. Children's hospital does so much good for our community."

That's why Romanoli and his team of stylists at NICO Spalon came up with "Cuts for a Cause."

Sunday, stylists gave people a free hair cut in exchange for a donation to the Children's Hosptial.

Hospital representatives say it could not provide health care to children in need without the support from the community.

"Children's Hospital is a no turn away hospital so we will take children from across the whole state and surrounding states," says Andrea Parsons of WVU Children's Hospital.

"Just seeing and knowing that there are children that have to go through this and they shouldn't have to go through it," says Spalon Coordinator John Whisler. "They should have support from the community, they shouldn't have to go through it alone. They have their families but they should also have their community behind them," says Whisler.

Thirteen-year-old Mazie Cheesebrough says even though she needed a hair cut, she thinks the event is good because it helps out others her age.

"Children's hospital is really important for a lot of kids and its good to help them out with the money and donating," says Cheesebrough.

NICO Splaon hopes to make "Cuts for a Cure" an annual event.

"Hopefully next year other salons will jump on the band wagon and it will be a state wide event," says Romanoli.

From noon to five on Sunday, Nico Spalon gave 76 people haircuts and raised $2,500 for the Children's Hospital.
