MORGANTOWN -- The Mountaineer Area Robotics (MARS) team will leave for Pittsburgh on Wednesday to participate in the 2009 regional competition.

The team of about 19 students have had six weeks to build a robot.

During the competition the students will show off their robots skills by trying to place as many 9 inch orbit balls in the enemy team's hopper.

"It's a lot of fun," says Luke Scime a junior at Morgantown High School. "More importantly the amount of knowledge that you gain from the experience."

Team members say they've learned a lot by being a part of the team, and not only about engineering, "talking to companies, talking to businesses, fund-raising, public relations and outreach," describes Tessa Wiegand a sophomore at University High School.

"That's all stuff that you're gonna use at any job for the rest of your life," says Wiegand.

Supervisors say the high school students spend about 26 hours per week devoting their time to the robotics club.
