WEST UNION -- Susan Rebert and her two sons lost their home and livelihood, a beauty parlor, in a fire in January.
Now, thanks to the help of gracious volunteers and donors, work began Friday to make her dream of a new home and beauty parlor a reality.
Demolition crews were on site bright and early to bring the house down, completely free of charge.
When demolition was complete, the volunteers decided to move ahead and take care of Saturday's job as well.
They next phase was to bring in trucks to haul away the debris, but the group went ahead and called the dump trucks in, hoping to get Susan Rebert and her sons a few steps closer to their new home.
Some of those who are giving their time and energy do not even know Rebert, but they are hoping that everyone in the community will come out to help.
"Well, I never knew her until this happened," said Perry Ferguson from Faith Baptist Church. "But she's a lady in need and she didn't have any insurance on the house, and we're just hoping the rest of the community will come together and help rebuild."
Organizers are asking for materials or skills to contribute to the home. If you can help, contact the Cornerstone Bank in West Union at (304) 873-2401, or call By Grace Masonry & Construction at (304) 873-2145.
