MORGANTOWN -- Hundreds of people filled an auditorium to remember Dr. Robert Stitzel, a man who they say loved his work and family while making a difference at the university.
Stitzel worked for 42 years at West Virginia University as an educator, administrator and civil rights advocate.
He served as the the associate chair at the Health Sciences Center for some time and later became a director of graduate education.
He earned many awards including the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Achievement Award.
About a year ago, Stitzel was diagnosed with colon cancer and died over the summer.
Several of his friends, colleagues and students were at Sunday's assembly of about 200 people to honor the professor.
His family was also in attendance.
