FAIRMONT -- Redevelopment is an ongoing process in Fairmont, but construction and change take a while and results do not happen overnight.
There are several projects going on in downtown. A major one is the Traction Square Project, but you will not see most of the major upgrades until the middle of next year at the earliest. Right now, workers are laying the foundation.
Patricia Pagan and her husband were eager to get in on the Downtown Fairmont Revitalization. "If a person wants to be on the ground floor of revitalization, they better get in here quick because this place is going to be a star" Pagan said.
She purchased the Peoples Church on Monroe Avenue in downtown Fairmont as the permanent home for her entertainment business, Parables Events.
"We'll be doing an interactive comedy/mystery dinner theater, musical and culinary events and the chapel will have classical concerts and weddings," she said about her plans for the purchased church.
The Pagans are making the revitalization a family affair. Her daughter is also brining her business to Fairmont, with a creperie and coffee house on Adams Street.
"This is the perfect place, it is so ripe for revitalization," she said.
The Pagans are not alone. The Fairmont Community Development Partnership is also revitalizing downtown.
Charlie Fawcett, from the CDP said "we are going to make Traction Square a real show center for this south section of Fairmont."
The Community Development Partnership recently purchased the Old Crawford Building. It has now been added to the Traction Square Project. The project will also include the Freight House and McCoy Buildings, and parking.
"All I can say is wait until it is done and see the difference," Fawcett said.
That project will add residential and business locations, including an authentic Mexican Restaurant.
Fawcett said they will not be up and running any time soon. "When you are dealing with a non-profit developer, everything revolves around funds," Fawcett added.
The Traction Square Project still needs another $300-400,000 to be completed.
The Community Development Partnership says if all goes well with the funding, the Traction Square Project will be done by the middle of next year. The Pagans hope to have both their dinner theater and Creperie open by February or March of next year.
